Bird Ornaments

The kids and I made these sweet little birds for the tree.  I got the idea from the teacher I was working with during my student teaching placement.

Materials -Felt, tacky glue, hot glue, glitter, google eye, string for hanging

I used a dove clipart for a pattern-1. cut 2 out of felt 2. tacky glued the heads bodies and tails together 3. put on google eyes, put tacky glue on wings -wherever you want glitter 4. shake glitter over glue 5. hot glue string to back -in between layers.
pretty and simple.

Jelly Jar Snowglobe

The kids will be doing a project like this for the Christmas season and since I had the jars I did one too.  My kids are making them tomorrow.

Materials:
Smalll Jar -I used the little jelly samplers
Modeling Clay
Glitter
Water
Dish soap
Hot glue

amazingly modeling clay will withstand being in water.

make a base on the jar lid to put your snowman or whatever.
add a few drops of dawn to water and lots of glitter.
hot glue cover on
create base with modeling clay

it's that easy!

Who Says I Can't Watercolor?

Preparing a lesson for the 7th grade today that involves Snowman at Night book and creating a snowman with chalk which like the book shows light and shading.  I decided to do one in watercolor just for fun.  My best watercolor yet (not a big fan of watercolor).
Isn't he just the cutest...

Eric Carle Snowman Lesson for Kindergarten

Found these cute snowmen online for the kindergarten class to do -they expressed how much they wanted to paint last week.  Me and my three kids did these up today for examples for the class.  They had fun doing them.  My son really liked the camo paper I found for him.  My 18 year old daughter made one too and took her sweet time-hers is the first one.

Creativity Flying!

I am loving these trading cards!  Really wish I had used these ideas for the initial show.  With each card I am coming up with more and more ideas.  They are just so inspiring, could it be there is no pressure?  Since they are just for fun I can do what I please without being judged.

Trading Card for "Clinging" from As TIme Goes By

Trading Card "Ties That Bind"

Trading card that I did up last night for Ties That Bind from As Time Goes By series.  I think I may have went a little bit overboard with the ink splatters.

Trading Card for "Mother" from "As Time Goes By"

This is the first in a series of trading cards that I plan on doing for my series "As Time Goes By".  This was done on acrylic paper using acrylic paint and a torn and burnt photocopy of the photograph "Mother".  The text is a line from the poem that accompanies the photo.
These cards are really so much fun!  I wish I had used the card ideas for show.

Street View Photograph for Harlow 8x10x100

This is one of the three photographs I chose to send to the Harlow Gallery 8x10x100 show for next month.  It was taken in Presque Isle along Main St.  While walking along I found the architecture so interesting I just had to take some photographs.  This one I really like.  The lines of the old boards combined with the designs over the windows with the brick shoe store sign falls together nicely.  I tuned it up on Photoshop to enhance the vibrance which brought out more tones and contrast in the wood along with some extra colors.

8x10x100 at The Harlow

Printing and matting my prints for the Harlow 8x10x100.  Have two done up so far and how I wish I had just taken them to Morning Star -perfect matting is much harder than it looks.

Apple Studies

The seventh grade have been working on drawing apples.  They start with a contour drawing, move to a shaded drawing then colored pencil and finally oil pastel.  They will be doing their colored pencil one next week so I gave it a try...never used colored pencils before (yes hard to believe).  I think they came out okay, they look like apples.
I started with the red and green one on the top, using a real apple which seems to have come out better than the rest.

Fantastic Faces

As you know I am student teaching in an elementary school to finish my degree requirements.  For fun and future reference I am doing the projects along with the students.
This project is being done by the first grade students.  For the past few classes they have been searching magazines for facial features for their face.  They can use any image that is not an actual facial feature as long as it fits.
I did this one up last night, not as easy as it looks.  My biggest challenge was finding "food" which was sized right for the features.

Turkeys with an attitude!

I wanted to do a turkey project with the students of the second grade.  I found a lesson plan which the students traced their hands and feet to make a turkey.  For parents these personalized items are keepsakes.
Well to make them more personal and not so uniform we (my supervising teacher and I) added a twist...give the turkeys some added personality by adding items such as clothing, jewelry, accessories and so on.
Here are a few that we put together as examples.

I can't wait to see what the students come up with for theirs, should be fun!

Haunted House Silhouettes

The students at my student teaching placement are very very busy.  The fourth grade is currently working on haunted house silhouettes.  You start by covering the paper with bleeding tissue paper to color the background then add your haunted house scene.

Pumpkin Pastel Still Life

The high school did this project recently so I gave it a try.  Pastels really aren't my thing so I needed the practice.
I like trying the projects the students are doing, it's good practice for me now that I have no art classes.  I should be doing more on my own but just never seem to have the time - need to make the time to do some little things to keep sharp.

By Request...Ramone Pumpkin

My son requested I carve Ramone from the Cars.  He also made it clear it had to be a side view with flames.  Not the best choice.

Fillmore from The Cars Pumpkin is DONE!

I said I would and I did.  Started by painting the entire pumpkin green last night.  Finished about 2:00 this afternoon.

I used apples for the tires attached with bbq skewers.  The hardest part was painting the artwork on the side -my pumpkin was not an ideal shape for this project.  I really shouldn't have carved him out but my son wanted it to light up.

Just hope it makes it to Halloween.

The face doesn't look much like Fillmore -it doesn't have his character.  Should have done something over his eyes for a visor but didn't want to take the chance of spoiling him.

More Student Teaching Projects

The seventh grade is working on a still life.  I figured I'd give it a try.  Have to admit my drawing with pencil is a bit rusty.

Student Teaching

Just finished my first student teaching placement where I was working with 7-12 grade students.  I had so much fun and learned so much.
I enjoyed working with the supervising teacher and all of the students and will miss them all very much.

Hope to be back to work with you all again in the future.
