Upcoming Show

Heard back from Visions in Houlton yesterday, my show "As Time Goes By" will be on exhibition through December and January!

The Eye           10x10 Acrylic Paper

I don't know whether I am just getting pansy'd out or what but this one was quite the challenge.

Pansy                          10x10 Acrylic Paper

And yet another pansy, this painted from life.  Not using a photograph was much more difficult than I thought it would be.  I might do a couple more using the flowers themselves, but do prefer photographs.

Shades of Pink                   10x10 Acrylic Paper

New addition to my pansy series that I completed last night.  A little different from the others in that it does not include the center of the flower.  This was also not done from a macro shot, this image was a crop from a photo.

Purple Pansy              10x10 Acrylic Paper

I painted this yesterday from a macro photograph taken of one of the pansies in my flowerbed.  Originally it was done 12x12 but I trimmed down the paper to fit the 10x10 show requirements.

Just started a new painting, another 10x10 and yes another pansy.  This one is more colorful than the last one.  So far it seems to be coming out pretty well.  Thinking of contacting a greenhouse to get permission to photograph their flowers.  I can't seem to get any good macro shots with the wind blowing the flowers.
Solved my light issues, at least some of them.  I am working out of my cellar, I know terrible place to be working but for now it is the only place I have.  It has it's good points, no one dares come down there and second I can be as messy as I want and it doesn't hurt anything.

Blue Pansy              10x10   Acrylic Paper
My project for today was another 10x10.  This one is from a macro shot of a blue pansy.  I had some trouble deciding on how to represent the veins in the petals and finally went with adding darker blue throughout instead of painting in individual lines.  I think it worked better in the end.

Color of Emotion    40x41 Acrylic on Canvas              For Sale at Morning Star Presque Isle Me

This piece was part of a series of abstract paintings which used colors to represent emotion.  Morning Star Art and Framing in Presque Isle will be displaying this and a few more in June.  Today I am trimming and varnishing them to get them ready.

Decided to take a ride around with my camera this morning.  The most interesting thing I found was a burnt out log home.  The texture of the burnt wood is just beautiful.  I took a few pictures but it was just too bright and too buggy, need to stop back later in the day with my bug spray.

The Face                        9x9 Acrylic Paper

Today I tried something a little different and for the most part I like the results.  I first tried to use multiple colors on the face but it was just too much so I whited out most of it and it worked better.  When the painting was done it needed a little something so I splashed ink on it.

Joined Fine Arts America today in an attempt to sell some pieces.  I only had time to list one so far, would really like to know a little more about it before loading a bunch on.

The Spectator, 9x9 Acrylic on Paper

The original image for this was taken during the Houlton 2011 July 4th parade.  I had decided that I would concentrate on the spectators as well as the parade itself.  I noticed this elderly woman dressed all in red, white and blue and couldn't resist snapping a picture.
I painted this as a possible entry for a 10x10 auction taking place later this year.  When planning the painting I decided to put the focus on the elderly woman and paint everyone else without any details.  It wasn't until I began painting that I noticed everyone in the background was looking the opposite way of the lady, which is strange.
